Offre d’emploi: Centre Leo Apostel
Le Centre Leo Apostel (CLEA) de la Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) propose trois postes de doctorant(e) en philosophie et histoire des sciences. Les candidat(e)s sélectionné(e)s étudieront l’histoire de l’anti-mathématique et de l’anti-abstractionnisme aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles. Leur recherche fait partie d’un projet plus vaste sur la résistance à la philosophie naturelle d’Isaac Newton et l’émergence de la « nouvelle science » durant cette période. La date limite de candidature est fixée au 21 septembre 2025. Plus d'informations via le lien.

Appel à contributions: Centre Sarton
Un nouvel atelier international, organisé par le Centre Sarton pour l’histoire des sciences (Université de Gand), portera sur l’organisation et l’intégration des savoirs dans le monde islamique entre 1200 et 1800. Cette période se caractérise par une institutionnalisation et une systématisation croissantes des connaissances. L’atelier aura lieu du 2 au 4 juin 2026. La date limite de soumission des résumés (300 mots) est fixée au 31 juillet 2025. Plus d’informations via le lien.

Jean Massart (1865-1925)

Le 16 août 1925, le botaniste belge Jean Baptiste Massart décède. Pionnier du travail de terrain en biologie en Belgique, il ne limita pas ses recherches aux frontières nationales : il entreprit également des voyages scientifiques, notamment au Sahara et à Java. Massart joua en outre un rôle de précurseur dans le domaine de la conservation de la nature. Dès 1912, il fonda une ligue pour la protection de la nature. Après la Première Guerre mondiale, il porta son attention sur la restauration écologique de la région de l’Yser. Il créa également, pour l’Université libre de Bruxelles, un jardin expérimental dans la forêt de Soignes. Pour en savoir plus, cliquez sur le lien suivant.
